Senior Systems Engineer – Jira Administration
Purpose
- Manage and maintain internally developed/vendor supplied tools/software to be used in software engineering process in Pearson
- Administer, maintain, and operate the tools with service excellence
- Tool support escalation to aid junior members of the team with a focus on Jira as the subject matter expert (SME)
- Perform technical triage and troubleshooting across all technology layers
- Upgrade / patch any tool suites that may need to be patched to the latest release
- Drive tools towards continuous improvement
Accountability
- Installation, configuration, development, debugging and support of Atlassian tools (Jira, Confluence, Stash)
- Configure and maintain the production JIRA Services
- Support and troubleshoot JIRA
- Work with JIRA to enable custom workflows, fields, dashboards, and reports
- Create and manage complex JIRA components including project workflows, screen schemes, permission scheme and notification schemes in JIRA
- Being proactive in analyzing application logs, debugging performance related issues, etc
- Help guide and maintain the organization of data in Confluence
- Setting up customized Jira Projects, Workflows, Post function
- Manage various dev tools, testing tools, and monitoring tools
- Ensure systems are stable and available and that user issues are addressed in a timely manner
- Discover opportunities to improve the workflow of daily tasks and lead efforts to drive improvements in team efficiency
Key Technical Competencies
- Excellent working knowledge of Atlassian products (Jira, Confluence and Stash)
- Excellent understanding of JIRA and Confluence workflows, permission schemes, notification schemes, screens schemes, etc.
- Good working knowledge in Linux and Windows environment
- Good working knowledge of components of applications like Apache, Tomcat, MySql.
- Experience in automation scripts for application maintenance, monitoring using scripting languages (Perl, Python, Ruby, Shell)
- Experience in plugin development of Jira, Confluence, Stash
- Experience with version control systems (SVN, CVS, Git, Perforce)

Education, Qualifications and background
- Bachelor's degree in related field and/or a combination of sufficient relevant project experience and proven track record of delivery.
- Minimum 5+ years experience in Systems or Application Development required
Preferred Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience
- 5+ years of experience in IT in a large enterprise
- 5+ years of experience in tools administration
- Experience with application life-cycle management software
- Experience with web architecture (e.g. Apache, Tomcat, HAProxy)
- Experience with build automation and dependency management tools (e.g. Jenkins, Hudson, Ant, Maven, Nexus, NPM)
- Knowledge of virtualization (e.g. vSphere, vCenter, vCloud)
- Knowledge of IT operations process frameworks (e.g. ITIL, DevOps)
- Knowledge of networking, NFS, and SAN technologies
- Knowledge of SQL DB (e.g. MySql, Postgre, Oracle)
- Knowledge of Orchestration Tools (e.g. Puppet, Chef, Rundeck, Nibiru, Electric Commander)
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite products
