Data Network Engineer

The Position

We are rapidly expanding and we are looking for Network Engineers to configure networks for our Corporate and Business customers.

Exetel’s Colombo office is at the World Trade Centre (WTC). You will be required to work an 8 hour ’shift’ from 3.00 am to 12.00 noon five days each week. The people who are currently successful at Exetel in these positions have the following characteristics:

• IT related degree and/or MSc
• Minimum of 2 years customer support in the ICT industry
• Solid personal experience with modems, routers, networking and broadband services
• Patience, Courtesy and the ability to paying attention to ultimate detail
• Ability to work full on for extended periods of time

You will work with a group of people who are among the best in the IT / Communication / Internet industry and will have good opportunities to advance in your career in a choice of directions. The compnay would provide further professional training which would be subject to approval at the time.

 Job Description

The job responsibilities of this position are as follows but not limited to:

• Analysing needs of customers and propose a solution
• Design drawings for recommended solutions
• Provide list of notes to be included in the offer indicating specific needs of customer
• Consult the solution with the backbone (core network) manger
• Implement network solutions, configure and test routers and switches
• Ensure implementation of company procedures and policies
• Liaise with other sections within the company and a potential client until the solution  is found
• Provide direct support for customers.

Essential Requirements

Please apply ONLY if you have the following:

• IT/Computer Science/Networking related degree from a recognised University 
• CCNP and any other Cisco certifications
• Hands on experience with Mitel Products
• Excellent communication skills; both verbal and written
• Excellent customer service skills
• Analytical skills
• Ability to work independently as well as in a team
• Ability to work in a high pressure environment
• Advanced knowledge level of Networking and TCP/IP
• Working knowledge of  VPN solutions (IPsec, DMVPN and MPLS)
• Good knowledge of VLAN technologies
• Good knowledge of routing; BGP, OSPF
• Familiarization with layer 1 technologies (UTP, Fiber)
