Technical Specialist - Java/UI (2015)

SUMMARY

A key architectural / engineering role in the project lifecycle working closely with lead architect and the team. Works directly with product teams to learn and document the technical aspects of both their business and technical requirements. Performs cost benefit analysis, architectural tradeoff analysis and research to identify most cost effective/efficient solutions to implement. Demonstrates how the proposed solutions address the business challenges and guides software engineering teams to implement them.

· Provides realistic and accurate estimates and achieve on-time Delivery.

· Ensures that code artifacts produced are of the highest quality, conforming to set or agreed upon standards. Should advocate such consistency to all members of the team.

· Follows the Pearson processes, agile practices and motivates his/her team members to do so.

· Escalates and communicates issues, risks and concerns to leads or managers.

· Makes optimum utilization of engineering tools and technologies to maintain a high productivity level in the team

· Accepts project delivery responsibilities and demonstrate accountability to leadership.

· Builds competencies in product and technology domain to set expectations.

· Is a professional in work aspects as well as conduct with other individuals.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Individual should possess a Bachelor's degree in Computing or Information Technology. Individuals who have a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Physical Sciences, or a specialization in the Engineering field will also be considered.

Minimum four (4) years of experience in software engineering and design and two (2) years of additional experience in a similar capacity providing architectural & engineering guidance to the teams.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Strong skills and passion in software architecture & design and the desire to learn and continuously improve on the product quality, performance and other non-functional requirements.
• Strong and effective interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to interact with prompt and professionalism to the teams across multiple geographies and time zones.
• Strong technical skills and hands on experience in Java and related tools & technologies including open source frontend & server side technologies.
• Hands on experience on RDBMS technologies and understanding of NoSQL and Big Data architecture.
• Experience in Agile software development practices such as SCRUM & TDD / ATDD.
• Basic experience or knowledge on building, packaging & deployment tools, web & application servers and database technologies.
• Provision of indepth technical skills to fix adhoc incidents/problems, mentoring and support DevOps teams to ensure best practice.

• Desirable Experience or Knowledge on the following areas:
  • Object Oriented Concepts
  • System Analysis and Design
  • Architectural and Design Patterns
  • Unit Testing
  • Web Application Development
• Strong technical skills and hands­-on experience in Java and related tools & technologies including  open source front­end & server side technologies.

• Experience or Knowledge on the following areas:
  • Development Stack - J2EE (JSPs , EJBs, Servlets etc) , Spring Java, JMS
  • Frontend - NodeJS, JQuery , BackboneJS, Ajax , CSS
  • Building, Packaging and Deployment Tools - Maven , Jenkins
  • Web and Application Servers - Weblogic , Tomcat
  • Database Technologies - Oracle
  • Web Services - RESTful Web Services , SOAP Services
  • Source Control - SVN , GIT etc
  • Responsive Web Design

· Knowledge on other Open Source Technologies is an added advantage.
