Network Engineer

The Network Engineer is primarily responsible for managing all aspects of configuring, monitoring, maintaining, and troubleshooting the production routers, switches, firewalls and handling requests and problem escalations from Service Desk and other departments. Secondarily, the incumbent will be responsible for escalation training of other groups. The engineer determines the severity of issues (triage), prioritizes issues, performs diagnosis of system and software components to identify root cause, and takes action or recommends corrective action for resolution.

The engineer will work with other systems and database administrators, software engineers/QA, technical product managers and vendors to clearly state problems, troubleshoot, diagnose and/or resolve complex technical issues.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Primary escalation point for network troubleshooting for US after-hours times
  • Develop network engineering solutions
  • Prepare technical reports, test cases, client presentations, design documentation, and manuals
  • Troubleshoot, remediate or escalate any networking issues encountered
  • Perform configuration and maintenance on routers, switches, firewalls and load balancers
  • Monitor and maintain corporate and production networks
  • Respond to alerts from monitoring systems in a timely manner
  • Monitor, maintain and troubleshoot wireless networks and wireless connectivity
  • Monitor, maintain and troubleshoot client VPN connections
  • Build network cables as needed and manage office cabling infrastructure
  • Perform installation and configurations of Cisco, Juniper, F5, Check Point, Cisco ASA, network and security hardware and software
  • Developing network test cases and performing tests (5yrs)
  • Demonstrated infrastructure design, configuration, test and troubleshooting ability
  • Experience in managing and supporting CISCO , Juniper, Fortigate devices
  • Provide guidance in the setup, design and administration of Network infrastructure
  • Negotiate and maintain relationships with hardware and software vendors
  • Collaborate with coworkers both in person and remotely (use of collaboration tools such as wenex, Google hangout & IRC)

  • Ability to articulate solutions to such diverse constituencies as project managers, clients, business stakeholders and engineers, and to coordinate (with both project management and engineering) major systems events such as application upgrades, launches, load tests and deployments.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Technical skills

  • Cisco IOS version 12 or higher (5yrs)
  • Cisco routers & switches 2600, 3800, 3900,3560,6500 and 7200 series
  • Routing protocols including EIGRP, OSPF; some BGP is a plus
  • Routing protocols including EIGRP, OSPF; some BGP is a plus
  • VPNs, including Cisco VPN client and IPSEC tunnels
  • Wireless LAN’s, wireless access points, and wireless NICs
  • TCP/IP communication protocols specifically FTP, SSH, Telnet, SMTP, TFTP, HTTP, HTTPS
  • Firewall and network security solutions: Check Point, Cisco ASA, IDS, IPS, Filtering, Radius, VPN, Riverbed Steelhead
  • Deep understanding of network management tools
  • Experience with scripting in Python or bash
  • Familiarity with the Linux shell

Other Skills

  • Should have very good verbal & written communication skills.
  • Should be able to work independently with minimum supervision from onsite locations.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, IS, or Electrical Engineering.
