Director - Software Engineering

Director of Software Engineering (DSE) will own engineering aspects of one or more software  platforms. He/She should provide leadership to software engineers at various levels within the platforms. Typically this encompasses directly managing several Software Engineering Managers (SEM)’s. This position will be accountable for driving engineering rigor, product roadmap assurance and practice management aspects of software engineering.

 

The Director will deal with divisional staffing issues, including employee issues, counselling, performance appraisals, etc. and will also provide recommendations on recruitment, performance management and remunerations. He/she will also ensure goals are set for SEMs and they are meeting the same.

  

DSE should work closely with their counterparts in different locations and Head of Departments (HODs) to ensure software engineering goals are achieved.   

 

 

Education, Qualifications and Background

 

Master degree in business administration/management or an equivalent qualification preferred. Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree with other relevant industry qualification is required.

 

Minimum fifteen (15) years of experience in software engineering including at least five (5) years of experience in senior management.

 

Solid understanding and appreciation of variety of software development life-cycle processes and methodologies (Eg. agile and waterfall).
 

Solid understanding and appreciation of Software lifecycle disciplines
 

Experience in software engineering discipline and knowledge in following disciplines:

o    Architecture & Design

o    Object Oriented Design and Programming

o    Integration technologies

o    Core Technological Platforms (eg:- J2EE / .NET / PHP)

o    Database technologies

o    Unit Testing / Test Automation

o    Cloud technologies

o    Configuration, Change and Build Management

o    Service Management

 

Strong communications skills and the ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.

 

Ability to be self-motivated and work collaboratively with different divisions of the organization to achieve the objectives of the Global Engineering Delivery organization.
