Within the CIO’s Technology Operations organization, the End User Services Platform Design team is seeking a technology domain expert, with extensive knowledge and familiarity with Windows (client and virtual) / Apple / Chrome platforms, is forward thinking and well-versed in emerging technologies and trends. This individual is a leader with a proven record of driving internal adoption of new end user technologies while deprecating aging technologies and risks to meet business objectives and security requirements.

The candidate will be a focused technology specialist with deep expertise in Windows / Apple / Chrome client computing and management platforms, desktop, laptop and virtual clients. The candidate will be responsible for providing detailed domain expertise and advice to Technology Operations and the wider businesses on all aspects of the end user platforms and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of platform developments.

The candidate has excellent interpersonal skills necessary to partner with business stakeholders and technology team members to understand strategic business initiatives and through innovation and relationships with our key technology providers Microsoft, Apple, Google and others, deliver technologies and solutions that meet our business objectives in the end user computing space.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with domain engineers in the End User Implementation team on the design of our global device management platforms including Windows / Apple imaging, device management, software distribution, patch management, encryption and virus protection management services.

  • Prescribe appropriate end user configurations that balance business requirements with Pearson’s technology standards to arrive at the optimal solution.

  • Assist in the development, delivery and evolution of the full portfolio of Windows / Apple / virtual client standards working with the EUS and TechOps teams. Work in partnership with the End User Implementation team in the testing and certification of all desktop operating environments.

  • Engage with appropriate external subject matter experts with our partners at Microsoft, Apple, Google, Pearson’s supply chain, and others to resolve complex issues, advocate for and bend the curve towards Pearson business requirements.

  • Engage with technology partners on changes, new technologies and future roadmaps to analyze impacts to the current environment, determine added complexities and recommend paths to adoption while keeping to security and compliance controls.

  • Assist in maintaining end user device and platform roadmaps including hardware, operating systems and core systems software components. Lifecycle planning for adopting technical changes and decommissioning non-strategic obsolete technologies.

  • Produce enterprise-level designs for global initiatives and follow those through a smooth transition to End User Services Implementation and Global Operations teams.

  • Provide technical guidance to the EUS Implementation, Global Operation and other technology design teams for solving complex technology operational issues.

  • Assist in commoditizing desktop and laptop hardware by defining a technical blueprint for cloud native use cases and advancing ChromeOS as a standard, and partner with lines of business to identify business cases for improvement and rationalization.

  • Assist lines of business and technology teams as the subject matter expert by providing review of internal and customer facing product development projects for Windows / Apple / virtual client / Chrome platform-specific initiatives and translating business requirements into detailed plans that align business objectives with technical capabilities and End User Services defined requirements.

  • Create, collaborate, maintain and share subject matter documentation, providing the wider Tech Ops communities with handoffs, self-service material, training and domain expertise to enable us to deliver self service support capabilities.

  • Influence and communicate effectively with non-technical audiences.

Technical Competencies

    Mandatory:

  • A senior engineer with least 3 years experience and expertise in defining and maintaining device platform technology standards, images and multi-year roadmaps:

    • Device OS - Microsoft Windows XP, 7, 8/8.1, 10; Apple OS X 10.6 through 10.10 operating systems and respective component support

    • Device hardware - Dell, HP, Lenovo, Apple, accessories, OEM drivers

    • Device security - Symantec EPP

    • Device Encryption - BitLocker/MBAM, Filevault

    • Virtual Infrastructure Management & VDI - Citrix XenApp and Xen Desktop

    • Browsers - Chrome, IE, Safari and extensions/add-ons

  • At least 5 years of experience working for a mid-sized (5000+) to large enterprise in a lead technical design and administration role for device management solutions for Windows and Apple end user devices:

    • Device Management - SCCM (current to 2012), Casper (current to 8+), WSUS, Active Directory 2008, MBAM, SEPP, Citrix Xen platforms, GPO

  • Demonstrated multi-year, multi-project technical relationships with Microsoft and Apple

  • Proven task automation expertise using Powershell, Python, Bash and/or other scripting languages

 

Desirable:

  • Multi-year experience designing device standards in a Google Apps business

  • 1+ years of experience designing Chrome and Chrome OS device management

  • Ubuntu device management

  • Apple and Google technical liaison and solutions expert

  • Device management and ServiceNow integration experience

  • ITIL framework (Foundations)

  • Knowledge of Apple iOS, Google ChromeOS / Android preferable

Educational & Professional Qualifications:

 

  • Should possess a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering or any other relevant field, or equivalent 5 years of professional working experience

  • Microsoft MDOP

  • MCTS - Administering and Deploying System Center 2012 Configuration Manager

  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert - (MCSE) - Desktop Infrastructure

  • JAMF Casper CCE, CCA, CCT

  • Apple OS X Certification

  • Apple ACMT Certification is preferred

  • ITIL Foundations
